Jo Ann Santangelo is a multimedia photojournalist and documentary photographer based in Austin, Texas.
Jo Ann is a graduate of the International Center of Photography’s photojournalism program (New York, New York) where she was awarded a The New York Times Foundation Scholarship and interned with Eugene Richards.
Her personal work, she had documented a range of subjects from gay veterans who served under ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’, transgender sex workers in NYC’s West Village to people living with HIV/AIDS in Austin, Texas. Last year she made my first short film, Within 100 Miles, that told the story of four central Texas sustainable farming families.
Jo Ann is currently editing her second short film focusing on children with Dup15q syndrome.
She has lectured at Colgate University (Hamilton, NY ) and was selected as the Prescott Visiting Artist at Miss Porter’s School (Farmington, CT). She taught photography for at ICP Teen Academy and Hunts Point for two years.
Jo Ann's work has appeared in The Washington Post, The Guardian, Mother Jones, Texas Observer, The Advocate, Food & Wine, Edible Austin and in numerous international publications; exhibited in galleries in New York, California, Massachusetts, Texas, Arizona, Connecticut and Oregon.
