Documentary Photographer, Portraits, Black & White Lover, based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Jose Madera’s interest in photography began in 2000 when he became a father. The desire to capture images of his newborn drove him to take his first photography class without imagining where this path was going to take him. After a little while he was hooked, embracing photography as his new passion and profession. Two years later Jose had his first professional experience working for a magazine focused on nightlife and social events. Soon after Jose began studying Communications to become a photojournalist. in 2004 he became a member of the Primera Hora newspaper as freelance photographer. In 2008 Jose decided to join the most important newspaper in Puerto Rico, El Nuevo Día, working as a staff photographer until 2014. Since then Jose has worked for various advertising agencies, focusing on portraits, his newly discovered passion. Being a fan of classic photography in black & white, he has participated in numerous collective expositions where he collaborates with other photographers that share the same interests. In 2015 he presented his first solo show receiving great reviews.
During those years he also collaborated with local and international press, his work can be found in the Associated Press, NY Times, El País, Agency EFE and CNN.
