Julie Bourges started out in photography in 2004 by devoting herself to news and documentary having studied photojournalism in Paris. With her « Flamencos » series, Bourse du Talent favourite in 2008, she adopted a more personal approach. Although still producing commissioned work for the press and advertising, Julie works on worlds that waiver between abstraction and the dream-like. In 2012 she finished the « Umbra » series (« shade », but also « reflection » and « ghost » in Latin), transposing into the Parisian urban landscape a more intimate territory, during a night walk tinged with mystery and poetry. In her current work, « The Absent Bodies », she questions her relationship to family and ancestors, in a search, without nostalgia, for memory and traces – an even more introspective continuation of her approach.
Julie Bourges lives and works primarily in Paris.
She is an associate member of the cooperative photography agency, PICTURETANK. She is now represented by ZOXX Gallery, Netherlands.
