Kelvin Juma, is a documentary photographer/filmmaker based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Passionate about photography and he is keen to document on socio-economic culture, development/impact stories and dailylife issues of individuals and communities. In addition to his diploma he has pursued short courses on Visual Storytelling and Documentary Practise from The VII Photo Academy and International Development from The University of East Anglia – England; to acquire more skills and knowledge in line with his work interest. He is a member of the Africa Photojournalism Database – APJD, a directory of emerging and professional African visual journalists reporting on cultural, economic, environmental, political and social issues on the continent, as well as sports, nature, and stories of everyday life.
Kelvin has majorly worked inside informal settlements in Kenya and has good experience with development work on NGOs has unique access to documenting African stories. He started an online , personal, ongoing photo project “Daily life Kibera” on Instagram. Focusing on taking photos of the nuance, the daily life inside his childhood community from his own perspective. With this, he intends to help the world unlearn and learn, about Africa, and offer a better understanding on the way of life as an insider.
