Kevin Outa
Nairobi, Kenya
I am a self-taught filmmaker and photographer from Nairobi, Kenya, with ten years of commercial shooting experience. During this time, I have specialized in shooting portraits, events, and documentaries.
My visual style and aesthetic can be described as high contrast, dark and moody. This is because it allows me to capture images exactly as I see them in my head and with my eyes. I love keeping it natural, and this type of shooting helps me stay in firm control of what I create.
In the course of my career, I have worked with international brands such as Adobe Stock, Milanote, and Standard Chartered Kenya, but most of my recent work has been focused on documenting artists through short-form content. However, lately I have been feeling the urge to create something more meaningful growing in my heart.
By creating more documentary-style projects, I desire to create with more purpose , and focusing on other artists and creatives is the best way to hear real stories, told by real people.
As a documentary photographer and filmmaker, my objective is to learn more about the people in front of my lens and try to create a deeper connection. This has always helped me capture assets that look comfortable, and that are full of emotions.
I feel that as an artist, the best I can do is to create a safe space for others to truly express themselves and their feelings; the same way I do.
Most of these connections have developed into greater friendships, and that is all I could ask for.
As an artist, success for me would be to reach a point where my creative ideas can be used to make engaging films, while giving other people the platform to express themselves in their most authentic form.
