A photographer since 2001, Lorena Ros has been published globally and been a regular contributor for The Sunday Times Magazine, The Sunday Telegraph and El País and other major magazines.. She has worked extensively with humanitarian organizations like Soros, Human Rights Watch, Doctor’s of the World, amongst others in developing countries like Russia and the African continent.
In 2011-12 she created and conducted photographic workshops for inmates in Spanish women’s prisons with the support of the Audience Engagement Grant from OSI and La Caixa Foundation. Recently she received another grant from La Caixa Foundation for a photographic workshop with disabled community, immigrants, and teenage mothers in Barcelona. After four years as a professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catlunya, at present, Lorena is teaching at the Master of Photography and design at Elisava in Barcelona.
In 2008, Ros received the Getty Grant for Editorial Photography. Her first project on illegal immigrants to Spain, won a 2001 World Press Photo Award in single general news. This developed into her next project: tracing women trafficked from Nigeria to Europe - which won a World Press Photo Honorable Mention in 2004 and The Amnesty International One World Media Awards in 2005.
Lorena participated in The World Press Photo Joop Swart Master class in 2005, presenting a series of portraits of child sex abused survivors, which won numerous awards (2008 World Press Photo 2nd Prize contemporary issues, an Honorable Mention at The ‘American Photographer Of The Year’ Awards and the Fotopress Award by la Caixa Foundation). - This Project in fact was the beginning of an 8 years journey that culminated in Unspoken, her first book published in 2014 by Blume and Schilt.
Lorena Ros, Graduated in Humanities (University Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona) and later did a Postgraduate In Photojournalism (London College Of Printing.) She lives with her baby daughter and her filmmaker in Barcelona.
