Andoni Lubaki

Andoni Lubaki (Urretxu, 1982) is a self-taught photojournalist based between Africa and the Basque Country. His interest in photography stems from the day during his childhood, he stole his father´s camera to go on a school trip. During high school he attended basic photography courses at home. From this point, Andoni developed a more serious interest and attended to several workshops taught by Pep Bonet (NOOR images), Alvaro Ybarra (Getty Images) and Peter Van Agtmael (Magnum Photos) among others. Nowadays he is working as a freelance photojournalist and has covered conflicts and social unrest around the world. He also has worked for TV, DW (Germany), NGOs (Mundubat) and his photographs have been published in national and international newspapers and magazines such as Newsweek, International Herald Tribune, Washington Post, The Guardian and New York Times among others.
In November 2013, he won the ‘Best in Show Award’, the ‘Chris Hondros Memorial International News Award’, both of them held by the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar and the 2nd prize in Spot News category in Pictures of the Year International in 2013.
