Andrew McConnell

Irish photographer Andrew McConnell began his career as a press photographer covering the closing stages of the conflict in Northern Ireland and the transition to peace. His work regularly documents people and places that remain under-reported in the international media and he has covered issues such as the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, e-waste in Ghana, surfing in the Gaza Strip, urban refugees world-wide, and the ongoing occupation of Western Sahara.
In 2011, he received two 1st prizes at World Press Photo Awards and two National Press Photographers Awards, including the prestigious Best of Show. He has also received two previous NPPA awards, 2 Sony World Photography Awards, and the Luis Valtuena Humanitarian Photography Award.
