Mara Catalan
Brooklyn, NY, USA
I’m an immigrant to New York from Spain, I’m a story teller, a photographer and a videographer, a printer and a book maker. I’m also an avid collector of histories and a lover of archives. My grandfather and my father were responsible for creating, collecting and building the archive of the “Spanish Romancero”http://fundacionramonmenendezpidal.org. My siblings and I have taken on the task of maintaining the archive and breathing it new life. Ever since I was a young girl I would travel with my father to remote villages of Spain, searching out and collecting stories for the archive. Those trips were an important part of my growing up, my journey as a photographer and an artist, and stoke my never-ending curiosity to unlock untold stories.
Today she lives in Williamsburg, NY, with her three children Luna, Kidon and Arlo.
