Marnie Benney
Baltimore, MD, United States
Marnie Benney is curator of the University of Maryland's Brick Garden project--a media series and a collaborative virtual workspace intersecting two trends: the multidisciplinary interest in culture-based thinking to address pressing social challenges, and the rising prevalence of social practice in the arts. She is also co-curator of the international marine conservation exhibition Nature in the Dark, and a writer for Baltimore's top culture blog Bmoreart. She has a passion for engaging local and international communities, fostering connections among them, and creating reflective moments through various forms of media. Benney received a BA in Media Studies and Anthropology from Pitzer College in Claremont, California, and a Post-Baccalaureate in Fine Art from MICA. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Curatorial Practice at MICA where she is initiating a dialogue among international artists around marine life conservation through an international art exhibition.
