Close your eyes | 2013 | 60x50x2 cm Which is the distance between our being and the image we ourselves suppose/hope/fool to cast? If to appear matters more than being, this is my challenge: let’s give up appearing. Just close your eyes and you will be yourself. Let’s think about ourselves: first thing about what we really are, then maybe we’ll try to attune our being with our appearing. We have to start again, to reset our idea of ourselves. So, don’t look: close your eyes and just imagine yourself. I took pictures of women and men of various origins (Africa, Asia, Europe, America) and status: chef and waiters, craftsmen and restorers, retired people and teachers, entrepreneurs and refugees, artists and shopkeepers. As a portrait photographer, I would like that people looking at my pictures can try to think about the meaning of the self. Are we still able to find our being and to be proud of it?
