Matej Povše (1977, Slovenia)
I am a freelance photographer. Over the past twenty years my work has regularly been published in Slovene and foreign media (Newsweek magazine, National Geographic magazine, IHT-International Herald Tribune, National daily newspapers Dnevnik, Delo, web portal Planet Siol) I have also worked with photo agencies like Capaimages Agency and AP.
I have received many prestigious photo awards; LensCulture Exposure award 2016, best reportage – Kolga Photo Festival 2016, Beta photo award, photo of the year by Emzin, several awards by the Association of Slovene Journalists, Slovenia Press Photo award by international panel, as well as awards for multimedia projects.
I have exhibited my work at several independent photo exhibitions as well as cooperated in the group exhibitions.
My continuous professional development is evident in the participation in different photo workshops such as Christopher Morris, Agency VII, Yurij Kozyrjev, Noor and Klavdij Sluban.
With the feel for aesthetics and subtle observation, I add new dimensions to the photographs. I don’t only follow the wishes, but through my intervention, I also add the undiscovered and often only personally recognized spaces of comprehension.
To me, photography is not only the print of reality, but more a field of subjective recording of light.

Hungarian border police lit the torch toward the family approaching from Croatia to Hungary. Before Hungary closed the border, refugees were coming day and night by train to the nearby train station Botovo and then they continue their journey by foot to the Hungarian border.
