Mattia Balsamini
Venice, Italy
Born in Pordenone, Italy, on September 1987. Based between Venice and Milan.
After moving to Los Angeles in 2008 he starts working as assistant for still life and advertising photographers. In 2010 he begins assisting David LaChapelle in his Hollywood Studio, working both on set and in the archive, following aspects of pre-production and shooting as well as exhibition preparation. After graduating with honorable mention at Brooks Institute, he moves back to Italy to work on editorial and commercial projects. Since 2012 he is represented by LUZ and works as educator at MeLa, the rendering and interactive research department at IUAV University of Venice. As co-founder of Collettivo Fernweh he is currently collaborating with graphic designer Lucia Del Zotto and editor Gabriella De Domenico on a year-long residency at Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, exploring the possibilities of de-structuralization of the book-object and investigating its traditional fruition.
