Into the Desert
Max Herman
Artist Alvaro Enciso, middle, leads a small group into the desert northwest of Tucson to place handmade crosses where migrants lost their lives and to leave water for migrants making their way north and west. This image is part of a project looking at the treacherous conditions migrants face crossing the U.S.-Mexico border into Arizona where 129 died last year. Amid this dangerous border crossing, this series specifically focuses on the humanitarian and activist efforts in place to help prevent further deaths in the Sonoran Desert.
