Carolina Sandretto

Maria Carolina Sandretto was born in Italy in 1981. She reciever her first camera at the age of 10 and has since then been ivolved in creating images and stories.
After receiving her French Baccalaureate, she interned at P.S.1 MoMA as the Development Director Asistant for one year. She graduated from the Catholic University of Milan with a BA in Political Sciences in 2006. After living in Paris and working at Gallerie Yvon Lambert, she joined the American University in Cairo, Egypt, and studied Modern Standard Arabic and Egyptian Arabic for two years. In 2008 she began working in the Corporate Fund Raiser team of FAI- Fondo Ambiente Italiano, a not for profit Foundation restoring historic castles and villas throughout Italy.
Her professional path in the not for profit field allowed her to understand the deep connection between Photography and social change. As a fundraiser she enhanced in several foundations the use of images as a mean of storytelling. The impact of a meaningful image in her field of work connected her with the idea that photography is a very powerful tool to communicate social issues.
In 2011 she enrolled at the Bocconi University for a MA program in No profit Management while working as the Corporate Fund Raiser manager of Terres des Hommes Italy, a not for profit organization focusing on childrend’s education. In 2013 she decided to merge her two field of work by completing the program in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at ICP- International center for Photography in New York.
