Luis Enrique Ascui is an award-winning photojournalist and documentary photographer. He's covered stories in South America, Australia, Europe, and South East Asia over the last two decades. His work features coverage of the political turmoil and changes in Indonesia during the Suharto era, the aftermath of war in Afghanistan during the rise of the Taliban and in Cambodia during the end of the Khmer Rouge years. He has also undertaken projects in Bangladesh and Sarajevo. A grant from Panos London assisted his documentation of Mayan culture in Central America, in 1994 when he also trained in TV in Mexico City for Reuters and exhibited images from Guatemala in Copenhagen at the United Nations Summit for Social Development. In 2000, Luis attended the renowned Missouri Workshop for Photojournalism after winning the Nikon Award in Asia. His strong interest in visual storytelling continues in multimedia formats while working for NGOs among many communities across Asia and the Pacific. Luis also teaches photography and multimedia at universities in Australia.
