Born and raised in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) Johannes Elze felt an inherent desire to ‘escape’ and travel from a young age. Over the last 10 years, he has found the idea of ‘home is where the heart is’ to be one of many places – transient rather than fixed. ‘Home’ to him is everywhere he arrives and everywhere else that remains unknown.
After his Master Degree in Media & Art at the Bauhaus-University Weimar in Germany focused on travel photography, he wants to communicate the beauty of our planet in every possible way, by providing moments, interactions, conversations – the intimacy of the real rather than a context of the constructed. If he had to label the message of his images it would be an attempt to show what we are supposed to protect and what’s life really all about — The integrity of the everyday.
