Mauricio Fidalgo

Maurício Fidalgo, 1989, was born in "Rio Grande do Sul" state, south of Brazil, but had lived in six different states. Graduated in the Bahia State University on the Multimedia Journalism course in 2014, Fidalgo started to work with photojournalism while still on college. He documented cultural festivals and events to a national social organization in the São Francisco Valley. Then he collaborated to national photo agencies such Futura Press, joined local photo clubs, collectives and a local photo institute.
Fidalgo was selected to a R$ 10.000 governmental grant to develop a small photo project called “Fome de Gente”, photographing the local food and people of São Francisco Valley. Witch had two expositions on Petrolina – PE and Juazeiro – BA.
As graduation final examination work made the book “Luta-se Porque Vale” where he documented the 2013 Riots in the countryside of Brazil. With four months of total documentation time, the photographer and reporter spent countless hours with the protesters, photographing occupations, sleeping and talking to them. The book can be seen on its hotsite (www.lutaseporquevale.blogspot.com). A short movie, Vale Em Fragmentos, made out of photos and direct sound of the protests was also part of the author experiences, and won the first regional prize on the Vale Curtas Festival of 2014, it can also been seen on the hotsite of the project.
In 2014 moved from the countryside to Rio de Janeiro, there had his pictures published in big national and international media, also collaborates with Vice News Brazil. At the moment he continues to photograph the Rio de Janeiro slum´s, working always from inside –out with a close approach to his subjects.
