Michael Ciaglo is a freelance photographer based in Denver, CO. He previously worked at the Houston Chronicle where he covered Hurricane Harvey, the Astros World Series championship and was twice named the NPPA South Region Photographer of the Year. His work there was also awarded first place in POYI's recreational sports category and second place for sports portfolio. Before Houston, Ciaglo worked at the Colorado Springs Gazette where he was the photographer on the Other than Honorable series that won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting.
Ciaglo attended the University of Oregon where he received a Bachelor's degree from the School of Journalism and Communication with a focus in Photography. His work has been featured in major national and international publications including The New York Times, National Geographic, The Washington Post, Time Magazine, Sports Illustrated, The Guardian, CNN, USA Today and The Los Angeles Times.
Ciaglo was named the NPPA 2016 and 2017 South Region Photographer of the Year. In 2014 he was awarded two honorable mentions in the NPPA's Best of Photojournalism Competition in the feature photography and returning veterans categories and named the 2013 Region 9 Photographer of the Year. His work has also been recognized by the Colorado Press Association, the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters contest, the Hearst Journalism Awards Program and the Editor and Publisher EPPY Awards.
