Michael Robertson
Bristol, United Kingdom
I am a 27-year-old Australian writer, musician and ESL teacher who has lived in Bristol for 6 years. Studying English and Education at Monash University, I soon began to travel. Armed with a notepad and a Moriarty-style accomplice I penned my first collection of travel stories entitled "Trippin'". They were self-published in Bristol and beyond.
Soon after settling in Bristol, I started a band with a Frenchman 10 years my senior and began teaching English. Bristol has a vibrant, diverse community of learners which enabled me to find stable employment at a local language school and also teach privately. I complimented this with steady freelance writing work for magazines, translation projects, travel clients and more. Personally, I feel as though all these passions cross-pollinate and allow me to produce my best work.
In mid-2013, myself and three friends cycled from Bristol to Bordeaux on cheap second-hand bicycles. This formed the basis of my first travel novel, "On Vélo", which was completed in 2017. Currently, the book is not published, but I am looking towards new methods for releasing it. My keen interest in podcasts and experience audio editing both for music and radio has sparked the idea to publish it in audio form. This will be something I work on during my 2018 trip to Nepal and India, as well as a project I develop whilst I am traveling.
I would consider myself a highly creative, motivated and reliable professional in all that I do. Thriving off new projects around the world, I revel in the opportunity to create something innovative and long-lasting. Though I have a particular interest in and aptitude for music, travel and language, I am always open to consider projects in other domains.
