I am Young (1991) Independent Photographer born in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia, raised by immigrant parents who once were refugees that fled Vietnam by boat after the Vietnam War. I am at the opening stages of a photographic career and based in Kuala Lumpur, currently investigating on my main long-term project about ‘Cham people’, my mother ancestry.
Holding a Diploma in Photography and working as a press photographer for two years at Malaysian newspaper company, I decided to quit my job and pursuing my passion on storytelling. I also do freelancing on editorial and travel photography when I’m not shooting for my personal projects.
Inspired by the story of my first muse which is my mother, I have a desire to gain greater understanding on how people can survive under challenging circumstances. I believe that every soul who inspires through exceptional-tough experience can contribute and communicate with the future generation, which eventually will motivate us to shape a better generations, a better world.
So through photography, I learn how to express my perspectives on canvas. Every photo I take teaches me something, whether it’s about myself or the subject itself, or even the world, I always end up learning something new and gain priceless knowledge.
I’m humbly curious with things around me, the world, and ready to gain as much knowledge as I possibly can.
