Nathan Siegel
Nairobi, Kenya
I'm a freelance photographer, videographer and writer based in Nairobi, Kenya, but you can sometimes find me in Barcelona. I focus mostly on social and environmental issues.
Before going freelance, I cut my teeth covering everything from politics to music as a staff writer for the online magazine OZY.
But it was during university, while working with renowned journalist Anne Louise Bardach, that I came to truly appreciate great storytelling. I spent hours transcribing interviews that Bardach had conducted with Fidel Castro and William Burroughs, among many fascinating others. Burroughs was drunk, and I knew I wanted to be a journalist.
My editorial work has appeared in The Guardian, Al Jazeera, IRIN, IBTimes, OZY, NPR, CNN, National Geographic News, USAToday and others. I've also worked for a number of non-profits and companies, including the Carter Center, Farm Africa, Traidcraft, and RedR UK, among others.
