Boy of Steel
Nessim STEVENSON
Mussa, a 6 year old Kurdish-Syrian boy, lived for months with his family at the unofficial, makeshift camp in Piraeus port, Athens.
Strong, stubborn and cunning, he spent his days teasing the volunteers and sneaking into the storage warehouse in search of juice and croissants. A few days before this photo was taken, he lead a group of his friends out of the camp to go to the beach, only to return after dark.
His expression here represents the pride and resilience of his people despite the disastrous living conditions and uncertain future.
