Nick Loomis
Dakar, Dakar Region, Senegal
I am a writer-turned-photographer-turned-multimedia journalist based in Dakar, Senegal. Although I still write and shoot the occasional still image, I feel most effective in the medium of video -- in which I have the narrative control I lacked as a photojournalist and the visual expression not afforded to most writers.
I completed coursework at the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism in 2010 and moved to Senegal shortly thereafter. I have since travelled throughout West Africa and Haiti on assignment for The New York Times, Global Post, Al Jazeera, Voice of America and CNN. I also produce videos for international organizations, including Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, Open Society Foundations, and Plan International.
I speak French and I will be living in and covering West Africa for the foreseeable future.
