OAN KIM (born in 1974) is a photographer, as well as a musician and video artist. He was born and raised in France and studied visual arts at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, and music composition at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.
Over the years his photography work has developed an approach of the medium that is not strictly documentary, nor purely conceptual or pictorialist, but it is informed by all of the above, re-questioning the balance of these elements at every new series of work.
He has had 15 gallery and museum solo exhibitions since 2000 in France, South Korea, the USA and China, and has taken part in many more group shows around the world. Selected Solo exhibitions include White Box, New York (2011), Whanki Museum, Seoul (2011), The McKinney Contemporary, Dallas (2011), La Petite Poule Noire Gallery in Paris (2010 & 2011), Rencontres Photographiques d’Arles, le Capitole, Arles (2009); Pyo Gallery, Los Angeles (2009); Macau Museum of Art, Macau (2006). And selected group exhibitions include Etre jeune en France, Caixa Cultural, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, & Brasilia, Brazil (2009); Mary had a little lamb, Sunje Art Museum, Korea (2008); Micro-Narratives, Musée d’Art Moderne de Saint-Etienne, France (2008) and Oktober Salon, Belgrade, Serbia (2007).
