Nick St Oegger
Tirana, Albania
Nick St.Oegger is a documentary photographer and National Geographic Explorer based between Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Tirana, Albania. His work explores the deep relationship between people and the environment, with a particular focus on the cultural and natural heritage of the Western Balkans.
Since 2013, he has documented the grassroots movement to protect the region’s rivers from hydropower development, building an extensive visual record of some of Europe’s last pristine freshwater ecosystems in Albania and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Beyond environmental issues, he is committed to reshaping the visual narrative of the Balkans by sharing stories that highlight resilience, identity, and tradition in a region too often defined by conflict.
His long-term projects have been exhibited internationally, and he has worked with editorial and commercial clients including The New York Times, National Geographic, The Guardian, Die Zeit, Libération, New Scientist, Vice, The Telegraph Magazine, Patagonia and British Airways.
