Oded Wagenstein
Leonada Gelato Machena is seventy years old, and she saw Cuba changing in front of her own eyes: Batista's regime, the revolution in 1959, the fall of the Soviet Union and of course, the recent shift in US policy.
She lives in a tiny one-room house, in the town of Cienfuegos in Central Cuba, with her son, who was recently injured in an accident and her husband, who is in a progressive phase of Schizophrenia. Therefore, she is forced to rely on the very limited food stamps from the state."What keeps me going," she told the photographer, "it's my friends and neighbors, who share everything they can with me."
