Paula Abreu Pita is a Venezuelan-Portuguese visual artist. She has a degree in Social Communication from Universidad Monteávila and studied photography at Roberto Mata Taller de Fotografía in Caracas. In 2009 she earned a Master's in Advertising and Fashion Photography at Escuela Tai, Madrid. In 2010 Paula returned to Caracas and had her first solo show Peças da Madeira and in 2011, her second show Entre Águas de Portugal. The same year she moved to New York to earn a Master's in Fine Arts at Pratt Institute, where she had her solo show Buena Vista 504 in 2013. Abreu Pita has exhibited her work in the United States at Photoville NY 2014, The Fence in 2016, First Street Gallery, Rush Arts Gallery, DNA Gallery, and Blue Gallery. In 2015 her work was included in the Exposure Awards, Louvre, France; Renaissance Photography Prize, Getty Images Gallery in London and Mifa Foto Awards, Moscow. In 2021 she earned an honorable mention at Prix de la Photographie de Paris, and in 2022 she exhibited at Kranj Foto Fest in Slovenia. Paula is a selected winner of the American Photography 38 book of 2022 and of Shutter Hub Yearbook. Her photographs have been published in The New York Times, Washington Post, Forbes, and CNN, among others. Abreu Pita is part of Women Photograph Organization and Foto-Féminas, a collective of female Latin American photographers with whom she has shown her work in China, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Venezuela, and at the Bronx Documentary Center in New York.
