I was Deputy Editor of the national broadsheet The Australian and spent 19 years as staff correspondent in Tokyo, Washington and London and 3 years as a political corresp. in Canberra, before going freelance in 2012.

2002-2012. Europe corr. in 40-plus nations. Covered elections across Europe, wars in Iraq and Lebanon and stories from Sierra Leone to Kazakhstan
