Pilar Olivares, is a Peruvian freelance visual journalist working for Reuters most of the time, she started covering the hostage crisis in the Japanese ambassador’s residency in Lima by guerrilla group Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA). Now, based in Rio de Janeiro, she is interested in documenting social issues, linking human behavior in relation to social policies, in Brazil and other South American countries. Her photos have been published in different international media like Le Monde, The Globe and Mail, The Guardian, The New York Times, among others. She also collaborated with institutions such as the Notre Dame de Namur Congregation, NGO Care, Oxfam Bolivia, and journals NRC Handelsblad, NZZ Neue Zürcher Zeitung and The Globe and Mail.
