Penelope Thomaidi is a greek documentary photographer, member of Hans Lucas since 2018. Her work engages with environmental and social issues, often focusing on stories that have a special relation with memory, self-determination and resistance in contemporary western society.
With a background in fine arts (MA Artistic Production & Research, Universitat de Barcelona) and professional experience in graphic design she was trained in documentary photography at the Creative Documentary and Photojournalism one-year programme coordinated by Spéos International School of Photography and Magnum Photos, in Paris, France. Her work has been shown in exhibitions and international Photo Festivals such as those of the cities of Helsinki, Belo Horizonte and Athens. In 2018, she received the 1st Spéos Award 2018 for reportage and as a result her work was screened in VOIES OFF in Arles that same year.
Fluent english and spanish speaker, she has a full professional proficiency of french.
