Rafael Duarte

Born and based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1982, Rafael Duarte is a photographer and journalist, founder of the Miramundos expedition team. He uses photography to tell stories, provoke thoughts about the beauties of the planet and the need of conservation. In the last decade, he has traveled through more than 250 cities in 28 countries. Along this period of his life, adventure and travel photography has become one of his specialties in a symbiosis with its documentary sight. Conservationist and social themes can be often observed on his career. His photographs have been exhibited in galleries in France, England, Spain and Brazil in collective and individual expos, and also published in several medias.
He is currently the editor of the blog Miramundos hosted by O Globo - where he is also a collaborator - and a columnist for the adventure online portal Extremos. He is also author of the photobook "Expedição Miramundos Estrada Real", published in 2013. After finishing High School in California (USA) he majored in Social Communications – Journalism. He also has a Master in " Cinema and Audiovisual " at the Université de Paris 1 Panthéon - Sorbonne (Paris, France), an MBA in Marketing (FGV) and a postgraduate degree in Communications (ESPM). Nowadays he manages as well Bambalaio, his own content and agency.
In 2012 he was a commended photographer at the Sony World Photography Awards, in the World Photo London at Somerset House. His works have been selected by architects to be in its main event in Brazil, Casa Cor Brasília, on the years of 2012 and 2013. In 2009 he was elected among the best photographers in the Camino de Santiago by an association of Navarra.
