I'm a staff photojournalist at The Gazette in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, covering news, local and Big 10 sports, arts, entertainment, agriculture, business, etc. in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City corridor and 16 counties in northeast Iowa.
I taught publication design at Ohio University's School of Visual Communication, where I received my M.A. in photojournalism in 2015. As a DAAD internXchange fellow, I interned at the Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten, a Tagesspiegel paper covering Brandenburg, Germany's capital city. For several years before that I worked in Berlin, where I first traveled on a Fulbright Fellowship. I received my B.A. in German and Literature, Science and the Arts from the University of Iowa. My research interests are focused on whiteness, economics, immigration, history, and memory.
I've done work for a broad range of publications: Archaeology, The Athens News, The Cedar Rapids Gazette, The Daily Mail, The Houston Chronicle, Ohio University, PBS NewsHour Online, PE Magazine, Smithsonian Online, The Texas Tribune and the University of Missouri.
