Cedar Rapids, IA, United States
I'm freelancing and finishing my Master's thesis and will be based in Iowa for the coming months.
Before this, I was the photographer and publication designer at Ohio University's Russ College of Engineering and Technology, where I shot everything from portraits to videos. I worked with social media and helped brainstorm new ways to share the ideas that drive the college's research and education.
I also taught publication design at Ohio University's School of Visual Communication, where I'm getting my M.A. in photojournalism. As a DAAD internXchange fellow, I interned at the Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten, a Tagesspiegel paper covering Brandenburg, Germany's capital city. For several years before that I worked in Berlin, where I first traveled on a Fulbright Fellowship. I received my B.A. in German and Literature, Science and the Arts from the University of Iowa. My research interests are focused on whiteness, economics, immigration, history, and memory.
I've done work for a broad range of publications: Archaeology, The Athens News, The Cedar Rapids Gazette, The Daily Mail, The Houston Chronicle, Ohio University, PBS NewsHour Online, PE Magazine, Smithsonian Online, The Texas Tribune and the University of Missouri. My work has been recognized by Photo Philanthropy, as well as the NPPA.
2007 - Fulbright Fellowship, 2012 - DAAD Fellowship, 2011 - Photo Philanthropy Healthcare Documentary Grant, 2015 - Iowa City Public Library Purchase Prize, 2011 - NPPA Student Clip Contest
