Ryan Hodgson-Rigsbee is a New Orleans based photographer. A native of Chicago raised by social worker parents, Hodgson-Rigsbee studied photojournalism at Ohio University, after promising to not become a social worker. Since graduating in 2005, he has worked as a staff photographer at the O.C. Register and as a freelancer with a variety of publications locally in New Orleans and Chicago as well as national and international media outlets. Beyond his editorial work, Ryan collaborates with numerous nonprofits, businesses, artists, bands, tribes and individuals to reach the public with a message that is both compelling and culturally responsible.
The NOLA project stems from long running personal projects started in 2008 exploring culture, music, and landscape of New Orleans, and other unique communities across the nation. His website rhrphoto.com offers multi-media essays incorporating photography, text, audio, and video. Images from these projects have been featured in local, national, and international exhibits and collections. Hodgson-Rigsbee has planned multiple zines, books, audio albums, postcards and sites to expand the scope of the project.
