Lorena Rios Trevino
Istanbul, İstanbul, Turkey
I am a freelance journalist based in Turkey. I began my career in Cairo, covering the upheavals brought by the military-led ouster of Egypt’s Former President Mohamed Morsi in 2013. In Turkey, I cover the Syrian crisis through the experiences of refugees, as well as life and politics in contemporary Turkey. I am particularly interested the experiences of displacement and in telling women's stories to counteract their under-representation in public spaces and the media. I am fluent in English and Spanish and I am studying Arabic. I hope to learn Turkish to explore Turkey’s rich history and where it stands today for its 80 million residents and as a key player in this volatile region.
