Sangsuk Sylvia Kang

Kang (b. 1991) is a visual journalist from Seoul. In 2017, she received her master's degree from Columbia Journalism School, where she focused on photography and video, and in 2014, received her bachelor's in Journalism from Northwestern University. Prior to freelancing, she interned at The Wall Street Journal's photography desk and The Onion's editorial desk, as well as various graphic design positions at The Chicago Tribune.
Kang spent half her life in Asia and is fluent in Korean. She is currently based in New York City's Chinatown and is a member of Diversify Photo and Authority Collective. She was selected for the 2019 New York Times Portfolio Review and The Eddie Adams Workshop XXXI, where she received the Bloomberg Assignment Award, and her work was selected for American Photography Annual in 2018.
Her long term project, Queereans (2013 - ongoing) documents queer Koreans and ongoing LGBTQ activism in South Korea. (password on portfolio: queereans)
