Santi Donaire is a photojournalist based in Seville, specializing in documentary and press photography. He worked as a photojournalist in Venezuela for over three years and has collaborated with national and international media, covering current affairs, historical memory, and environmental issues.Currently, he develops documentary projects in Spain, combining photography and video with a focus on historical memory, climate change, and industrial agriculture.
He also collaborates with various media outlets in Andalusia and across Spain.His work has been published in major media such as National Geographic, El País, The New York Times, Le Magazine du Monde, 5W, eldiario.es, and Diari Ara.
Awards and Recognitions
2017: Winner in the General News category at the Picture of the Year International (POYI).
2018: Participant in the King of Spain International Journalism Award.
2019: Finalist in the Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award.
2021: Presented, along with his production company NERVIO, the documentary Aita Mari about the migration crisis in the Central Mediterranean at the San Sebastián Human Rights Film Festival.
2022: Winner of the Joana Biarnés Grant, with which he developed his project Hasta que la tierra aguante.
2023: Winner of the Gabriel García Márquez (GABO) Award in Colombia for his work on Francoist dictatorship mass graves in Paterna, Valencia, published in National Geographic US.
