Santa Cruz, CA, USA
Sara Friedlander has lived in Santa Cruz, CA since 1973. She began photographing in 1969 on her first trip abroad. Her mixed media work combines photography with painting and most recently sculpture, as she treats the viewer to a fresh new perspective, whether her subject is Chinese women with bound feet, the Apple Store in Manhattan, the landscape of Eastern Europe or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Regardless of whether she’s printing a single unaltered photograph or combining and extending multiple images with paint, her intent is always to honor her subject, be it an individual, a culture, or the natural terrain. Additional work can be seen at www.sarafriedlander.com.
