Hi! My first name is Sari. It's pronounced "Shar-ee". It's Hungarian for Sarah. My last name is Goodfriend. Yes, I'm a good friend. Yes, it's my real name. No, my parents weren't hippies. Yes, it was probably altered at Ellis Island. Yes, my sister and I and my parents are all very nice people. They're also art dealers ( my parents) and because of that, they understand the value of art. And I don't mean at a high end auction. Rather, the value to humanity that art provides. They also knew way before I did that I was an artist. Thankfully they were encouraging when I decided I needed to pursue photography. I put off making that decision 'till I was 25 though, so I had a little catching up to do. Having majored in Art History and French Studies at Smith College and not having really been in the darkroom since I was in high school, I spent a summer at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Montana and then came back East to assist commercial photographers in NYC and to work for various newspapers in Northwestern Connecticut.
I've been a one-woman show, shooting assignments of all types - corporate, editorial, private commission and advertising since 2003. I'm constantly working on personal projects while juggling assignment work, the most long term being The "Silverheads" project, viewable in the Portfolio section of my website. Since 2007, I've been a volunteer teacher and mentor at NYC SALT, an afterschool photography and college readiness program for low income high school students all around New York City.
