Sayan Hazra
India
Sayan Hazra was born and raised in India. In early childhood, he was drawn to illustration, animated stories, drawing, and painting. While his studies focused on Engineering, he was introduced to documentary photography in 2014. An empath at the core, his curious and sensitive nature has driven him to explore the complicated human relationships within India’s changing society. Through photography, he visualizes questions around loss; loss of identity, loss of rights, loss of voice… while exploring the continued impact that colonialism has had on the culture and values of India. Believing that language is limited in expressing these complicated issues, Sayan uses the narrative abilities of photography to reflect the rapid changes of a contemporary world, focusing on the overlooked humanitarian, cultural, and social stories of our time. Sayan's sincere attempt to understand and connect with people, is evident in the work and deep relationships formed with his subjects. www.sayan-hazra.com
