Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso
Sophie Garcia is a french photojournalist based in Burkina Faso since 2013.
After cinema studies at University Paris VIII, she has worked as a projectionist and as an assistant to the art critic Hector Obalk before pursuing a professional training in photojournalism.
Sophie works on assignment for international NGOs and media (Le Monde, Jeune Afrique, Libération, Afrique Magazine, Der Spiegel, La Croix, L'Obs, Fields Mag). She has been developing a long-term work on conscious youth of Burkina Faso since 2013 and is currently pursuing a project on the heirs of the famous Pan-African leader Thomas Sankara.
Sophie is a member of studio Hans Lucas since 2014. Living in Ouagadougou, she covers local political news while pursuing documentary projects, and works on temporary assignments in Africa and Europe.
