Writer, Journalist & Communicator: In my 20+ year career, I've worked as a staff writer for a business publication, a contract writer for a tourist magazine, the managing editor for a career publication, and a radio journalist. My background also includes public and media relations, marketing, and corporate communications, and I've worked in Canada and in West Africa. I've had more than 100 articles published in print and online. I've written (and ghostwritten) dozens of blog posts and produced website copy, case histories, white papers and proposals. I have an award for excellence in a communications campaign from the League of American Communications Professionals and an award for photography.
For 14 years, I have directed corporate communications, public relations and product marketing for a software firm. My duties have included website development, social media, proposal creation, media & industry relations, technical editing and more. In this role, I received a Silver Magellan Award for excellence in a communications campaign from the League of American Communications Professionals.
During a two-year period in West Africa, I reorganized and expanded a regional development agency’s publishing department. I consulted on a team in the review and definition of the non-governmental agency’s mission, vision and objectives and prepared the resulting five-year strategic plan. I also collaborated with international agencies to establish a pilot Community Learning Centre in Africa.
While working in the publishing field in Canada, I co-ordinated the editorial, production and distribution for dozens of magazine issues. I also worked as a broadcast journalist and as a Hansard editor for the British Columbia Legislature.
