I, Sunil Thakkar (b. 1982), am an independent photographer, videographer and educator currently based out of Mumbai, India.
My work is an extension of myself – a deeply curious individual with a strong sense of design and a serious passion for travel and the arts. I am currently working on a long-term personal project, which involves the documentation of my solo road travel through India. Whereas commercially, I undertake a variety of freelance work ranging from architecture and portraiture to editorial and event coverage.
In 2012, I founded Photo Caddy, an organisation that strives to provide quality photography education in India. Till date we have conducted over 20 workshops and several personalised One on One Sessions, for students at varying levels, covering various aspects of photography.
In 2015, I co-founded BIND, a photography oriented collective run by practitioners in the field. Experimental in its approach, BIND explores specific and inventive forms of engagement with the medium such as photobooks, multimedia installations and performances. While its primary purpose is the creation of new works, BIND also intervenes in the realm of photography as a curator, a publisher and an educator.
