Tomasz Tomaszewski holds a doctorate from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. He is a member of the Union of Polish Art Photographers, Visum Archiv (Hamburg), National Geographic Creative (Washington) and the American Society of Media Photographers. He specialises in press photography and has had his photos printed in major publications in Poland and abroad, including Stern, Paris Match, GEO, New York Times, Time, Fortune, Vogue, Die Zeit and Elle. He has also written several books: Remnants: The Last Jews of Poland (text: Małgorzata Niezabitowska), In Search of America (text: Małgorzata Niezabitowska), In the Centre, Amazing Spain, A Stone’s Throw, and Overwhelmed by the Atmosphere of Kindness. Tomaszewski has had his work featured in over a dozen publications, has staged many solo exhibitions in the US, Canada, the UK, Israel, Japan, the Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Indonesia, Brazil, Madagascar and Poland, and is the recipient of several Polish and international photography awards. Tomaszewski has been a contributor to National Geographic, which has published 18 of his photographic essays, for 28 years, and has been the chief consultant to the magazine’s Polish edition since 1999. He teaches photography in Poland, the US, Germany and Italy.
