Toru Hanai
Tokyo, Japan
Toru Hanai studied photography at Nihon University in Japan before beginning his career at a local newspaper in 1996.
In 2005, he joined Reuters as staff photographer.
He has been at the forefront of news photography in Japan, covering anything from the G7 Ise-Shima summit to the March 2011 nuclear disaster in Fukushima. He has covered various global sports events such as the FIFA World Cup in 2010, 2014 and 2018, and the Olympic Games in London and Rio de Janeiro.
He now works as a freelance photographer.
