Valerie is an independent photojournalist, writer and videographer currently based in Prishtina, Kosovo. Valerie has produced multiple feature stories and reported breaking news from Kosovo, Afghanistan, Greece and Nepal. Her multimedia work has appeared in Al Jazeera America, Al Jazeera English, The Washington Post, USA Today, The Washington Times, Religion News Service, VICE, and others.
Before pursuing her passion for visual storytelling, she held a decade-long career in international development. From 2004-2012, she worked for an international development consulting company in Washington, D.C. that provides technical assistance to countries around the world on behalf of USAID. Her work took her to post-conflict and post-disaster countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia and Haiti. She still consults for the company and her recent short-term assignments have taken place in Somalia, Afghanistan, Nepal, Thailand and Morocco.
Some of the themes that Valerie has been exploring in Kosovo for the past three years are religion, post-war life, youth, and the arts.
