Victoria Bahr
Berlin, Germany
International photographer based out of Berlin, Germany.
Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras in 1988, I grew up in the capital of Guatemala. After studying Cultural Anthropology 3 and half years at the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, I received a scholarship to join a two year program of cinematography studies at polytechnic film school Casa Comal in Guatemala. Since completing the program in 2011, I have dedicated my career to photography and video art. I have worked in the commercial, artistic and documental areas of both disciplines over the past five years.
Between 2012 and 2015 I worked recurrently as a documentary photographer for Paris-based foundation Yahad – In Unum, whose primary objective is to document the mass killings and atrocities committed during World War II in Eastern Europe against Jewish and Roma people. This is accomplished by interviewing remaining survivors and witnesses in order to document their memories and allow their crucial oral historiography to become a center for public historical understanding. In addition to my work throughout Eastern Europe and Russia, within this framework I accompanied Yahad – In Unum twice to Iraq, where I visually documented the interviews conducted by the organisation with current genocide victims residing in refugee camps in the Kurdistan Region.
As an independent visual artist I produce, film and edit short conceptual videos. I have been invited to participate in various exhibitions throughout Latin America, including the 2012 GuatePhoto Exhibit in Guatemala, the 2012 PhotoImagen Exhibit in the Dominican Republic, the 2013 Juannio Latin American Art Auction where I received a honorary mention for my video “Revoluciones” and the 2014 Bienal de Arte Paiz in .
