Bolivia has been considered a society that preserves its traditions and culture;
However, a large community of young Bolivians created their own culture, that
contrasts with Bolivian society.
The Kawaii culture, born in Japan, is an ideology that wants to break the uniformity
that society imposes. The characters are not copies of Mangas or Cosplay. Each
follower creates his own character with his own identity.
During the project development process, I asked myself many questions about whether
identity is a construction or an imposition of society.
I think that in Bolivia, the indigenous identity is very strong. But the indigenous
peoples have mutated and now they are also very prepared people who not only work in
Young Bolivians are being built with a more global vision of the world and are free to
adopt other identities. I believe that we are living a moment in which we can be part
of a group and at the same time be individuals that build their own identity.
