My name Filip Jakubowski. I am 22 years old. Currently I am studying photography at The Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź in Poland and at The Institute of Creative Photography in Opava in Czech Republic.
Before that I studied anthropology at Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of the Jagiellonian University.
I am primary interest in personal documentary, in matters that directly affects and shapes us.
I strongly believe in words by Diane Arbus –
“The more specific you are, the more general it’ll be.”
Named as Student Visa Pour L'image Award "One to Watch" in Perpignan in 2018.
Divorce was my mother’s idea. In fact, she never explained to me why she wanted that divorce. I didn't ask.
It completly destroyed my dad who had to move out and start life from scratch.
They became parents very early and I know that they wanted to give me everything that they didn't have.
My mom comes from a fairly wealthy family-her father was an rich, abusive alcoholic.
My dad comes from a poor family-he left home at the age of 13.
This project is an investigation for me, using a combination of mediums: film(dad is a film director), photography(me) and writing(mom is a writer). How our family really looked like, what gone wrong, what led to all of this? It's an attempt to confront the myth that I created about my family, home and parents. This is an ongoing project and also therapy for me, for all of us.
