Sinawi Medine
Nice, France
Sinawi Medine was born in Eritrea in 1983. He left his country for political reasons and crossed several countries during his exile journey, before finally settling in Nice-France, in 2009.
He started photography as a self-taught artist while working in various studios in Africa but quickly moved towards photoreport. To boost his carreer in Europe, Sinawi also assisted photographers in architecture and design area.
Since 2016, he’s got regular collaboration with Ngo’s and publications in the press.
Today, his work aims to document situations, about social and geopolitical issues. At the same time he
works on cultural, performances, artist’s work and show through photography the links between culture
and society.
Sinawi’s main work is on refugee’s situation. His first exhibition was presented during the “Rencontres d’Arles” in 2012 with the photo reportage «Au bout de l’exil». The last one in spring 2017 in Cologne, Germany. Lately in 2017, nominated for the Joop
Swart Masterclass by World Press Photo Foundation.
Since November 2017, Sinawi joined Studio Hans Lucas.
